Which visa do digital nomads use in Bali?
Most use a visa on arrival ($28 (Rp 500,000), 30 days, extendable once to 60) or the C1 visit visa ($57 (Rp 1,000,000), 60 days, extendable to 180). The E33G remote worker visa ($398 (Rp 7,000,000), one year) is the only one that allows remote work on paper, for people employed by a company outside Indonesia earning at least $60,000 a year.
Can I work remotely in Bali on a visa on arrival?
On paper, no: visitor visas don't allow receiving pay for work. In practice, working on a laptop for a company abroad is tolerated; the deportations in 2025 and 2026 were for local, visible work, like teaching classes or installing equipment, and for overstays. The E33G is the visa that permits it.
How much does the visa on arrival cost in 2026?
$28 (Rp 500,000) for 30 days, as of 21 September 2026. In August 2026 the directorate announced a rise to Rp 750,000 online and Rp 1,000,000 at the airport; it isn't in force yet, so check the price on the portal when you buy.
How do I extend my visa on arrival?
Start online on the eVisa portal and pay there, then go in person to the immigration office for the area you're staying in, for a photo and a short interview. It extends once, for 30 days. Start at least a week before your 30 days end, and earlier around public holidays, when offices close.
Who can get the E33G remote worker visa?
People employed by a company established outside Indonesia, with income of at least $60,000 a year and a bank statement showing at least $2,000 over the last three months. It costs $398 (Rp 7,000,000) for a year, covering the visa, verification, the stay permit and a re-entry permit, and needs no sponsor. Freelancers without an employment contract are a grey area.
Can the E33G be renewed after a year?
The official page says it can be extended, without saying how often. Advice published in 2026 disagrees: some say one year at a time for up to several years, some say once only, some say you must leave and apply again. Don't plan past the first year until you've confirmed with immigration or a licensed agent.
Which immigration office do I go to for an extension?
The office for where you live; you can't pick another. Canggu, Berawa, Kerobokan, Seminyak, Kuta, Uluwatu and Jimbaran go to the Ngurah Rai office, and so do Pererenan, Seseh and Munggu since October 2026. Ubud, Sanur and Denpasar go to the Denpasar office; Tabanan, including Tanah Lot and Kedungu, to the Tabanan office; Nusa Penida to Klungkung; the north, west and east to Singaraja. The e-visa email tells you where to go.
When can I apply for an extension?
From 14 days before your permit ends at the earliest, and before it ends at the latest. Apply and pay online, then go to the office for a photo and interview. Paying before your permit ends means you're not counted as overstaying, and processing takes up to three working days after payment.
What happens if I overstay?
$57 (Rp 1,000,000) for every day, with no grace period. Past 60 days, it's deportation and an entry ban of up to ten years.
When do I become tax resident in Indonesia?
After more than 183 days in Indonesia in any 12-month period, counted across separate trips, with part of a day counting as a whole one. Holding a stay permit valid for more than 183 days, like the E33G, can count as intent to reside and make you resident sooner. Resident means taxed on worldwide income: talk to an adviser early.
Do I pay the Bali tourist levy?
Yes, $9 (Rp 150,000) once per trip, online at Love Bali before you fly or at the airport, unless you hold a stay permit (KITAS or KITAP, the E33G included), which exempts you automatically.
