Balangan and Dreamland, the Bukit's waves for learners and improvers
Balangan is the quietest part of Uluwatu, where local warungs still line the beach and Dreamland's sandy waves are a few minutes away.
Balangan is on the west side of the Bukit, closer to the airport than the Uluwatu strip. The private shortcut to Bingin closed in February 2026, so getting there now means the main road.
Balangan's wave is a long left over reef for intermediate and advanced surfers, a little less crowded than the Uluwatu strip, and surf schools teach beginners on its gentler right side. Dreamland, also called New Kuta Beach, has sand in the middle and reef at the edges. It's the easiest wave on the Bukit, and it's busy with surf-school groups.
