East of central Ubud, Peliatan's gamelan still plays Legong every Saturday, and Mas, to the south, has long been known for its woodcarvers.
Peliatan lies east and south-east of central Ubud, with Teges on the road to the Goa Gajah cave temple and Mas to the south. The pace turns local here, less set up for tourists, with cafés tucked between houses and gardens, and Mas has many of the town's newer villas.
Peliatan's Gunung Sari gamelan, founded in 1928, took Legong to the Paris Colonial Exposition in 1931 and to the United States in 1952. You can see it play Legong Lasem every Saturday at Puri Agung Peliatan.
