Pererenan, next to Canggu and now a main base for long stays
Just west of Canggu, Pererenan has rice fields, warungs, boutique cafés and a black-sand beach known for its sunsets.
Pererenan is a village in Mengwi, and some addresses people think of as Canggu, such as Tiying Tutul and Padonan, are in Pererenan. Time Out named it Asia's coolest neighbourhood in 2024. It now has boutique shops, specialty coffee and fine dining among the rice fields and warungs, and Hippie Fish, a rooftop restaurant on Jalan Pantai Pererenan, is a sunset spot.
It's no longer the quiet option. Pererenan has become one of the main bases for people staying months, its junctions back up in the evening, and in August 2026 median asking rents matched Berawa's. People who want quiet look one step further west, to Seseh and Cemagi.
Pererenan Beach is about 500 metres of black sand. The surf is a beach and reef break with more rocks and stronger currents than central Canggu, for intermediate to advanced surfers, and it's less crowded than Berawa.
